Privacy Policy

Last Updated: May 20th, 2025

1. Introduction

Welcome to WebTiles! This Privacy Policy explains how WebTiles ("we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our Chrome extension.

By installing and using WebTiles, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Information We Collect

User-Provided Widget Data:

  • Website URLs: When you create a widget, we store the website URLs you provide for embedding.
  • Custom CSS: We store any custom CSS code you write and apply to your widgets.
  • Workspace Configuration: We store information about how you organize your widgets and workspaces (e.g., widget names, layout preferences).

Local Storage Data:

All of the above data is stored locally on your device using Chrome's storage API. This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to any external servers.

No Collection of Browsing History or Credentials:

  • WebTiles does not track your general browsing history outside of the specific URLs you explicitly add as widgets.
  • WebTiles does not collect, store, or transmit your login credentials (usernames, passwords) for the websites you embed within the widgets. Any login information you enter into an embedded website is handled directly by that website according to its own privacy policy and security practices.

Usage Data:

Chrome Web Store may collect basic usage statistics such as installation, uninstallation, and updates. This information is managed by Google and subject to their privacy policy.

3. How We Use Your Information

The information stored locally on your device is used solely to:

  • Display your customized dashboard with your selected website tiles
  • Apply your custom CSS styling to tiles
  • Save your dashboard layout and preferences
  • Enable the declarativeNetRequest rules (as defined in the extension's rules.json) which may modify network request and response headers (e.g., removing X-Frame-Options or Content-Security-Policy headers from embedded sites, modifying User-Agent for specific widgets) to enhance the embeddability and functionality of websites within your widgets

4. Data Storage and Security

Since all your WebTiles data is stored locally on your device, the security of this data is managed by your browser's security mechanisms. We do not have access to this data and cannot protect it beyond the security provided by Chrome.

When a widget loads a website, your browser directly communicates with the website URL you provided for that widget. WebTiles facilitates this but does not act as an intermediary for the website's content itself, beyond any header modifications performed to enable embedding.

5. Information Sharing and Disclosure

  • No Sale of Data: We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information or widget configurations to third parties.
  • Embedded Websites: When you use a widget, your browser sends requests directly to the embedded website. Your interaction with these embedded websites is governed by their respective privacy policies.
  • Third-Party Websites: WebTiles allows you to embed third-party websites as tiles in your dashboard. These websites have their own privacy policies and data collection practices. We have no control over the content or privacy practices of these websites.
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a legal obligation.

6. Your Choices and Control

  • You can view, modify, or delete your widget configurations (including URLs and custom CSS) at any time through the WebTiles extension interface.
  • Uninstalling the WebTiles extension will remove all locally stored data associated with it from your browser.

7. Children's Privacy

WebTiles is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
